Tribute to Tona West (née de Brett), 1931 - 2021

I wanted to get in touch re voice stuff as a former student. I wasn’t expecting to see this.

I only just heard this news - very, very sad indeed. I saw a trailer for a movie with a singing teacher that reminded me of Tona, which lead me to Googling her and finding this memorial website. My mum was an enormous fan of Tona, and arranged singing lessons for me in the late 1990s. Tona introduced me to the music of Jeff Buckley, and ever since then I’ve thought of her every time I hear one of his songs. She was a luminous presence on Wood Vale - where my family lived too. I hope this message finds her family and friends healthy and happy in 2023.

Only just heard that Tona has passed. Such fond memories of my lessons with her when I was starting out some 25 years ago. Forever grateful for her guidance and support.

So sad to discover Tona is no longer with us. I will always be honoured to have been taught by her. Many happy moments spent in the front room. Rest well.

So many memories have stuck with me from childhood, singing in Tona's front room was the highlight of my week. And I still have her in mind when I do my Vocal exercises, she will be greatly missed! x
